How do I open tools in chrome?
Google Chrome’s design does away with the traditional Web browser menu bar and instead combines familiar options like “File” and “Edit” into a single button.
This button is in the upper-right of the screen and either looks like a wrench or three horizontal lines, depending on the version of Chrome you’re using.
The icon for the tools dropdown menu of the Chrome browser is now a vertical ellipsis,⋮, that appears as the rightmost icon at the same level as the URL address bar.
The ⋮ icon has replaced the “hamburger” icon that was used in older versions of the browser. The pulldown menu presents a list of tools, and one of the menu items is “more tools.”
See the blue mark:

Click the Menu button (included in the image) just to the right of the website address bar. You can access most of the commonly used menus from the drop-down list that appears.
You’ll see the options you’d normally find in the File and Edit menus here, such as opening new tabs, saving the page, and copying and pasting.
If you mean the File Edit etc., unlike Firefox and Internet Explorer, Chrome does not have a traditional menu bar.
- Instead, additional features can be accessed by clicking the More button (three dots in a vertical line ⋮ ) on the top right of the browser below the window close (X) button.
- See attached screenshot.
- Existing extensions installed can be found under “More tools” with more on the Chrome Web Store.

If you are looking to click on File to perform an Edit and/or View action, you can find these within the
icon at the top right of the Chrome browser. In an earlier version of Chrome, this
⋮
icon was previously a wrench as well as a ≡ icon . The icon has changed, but the functionality within the icon has not.
Tip: If you are looking for the horizontal Bookmarks Bar across the top and you’re not seeing it, you just need to “show” the bookmarks bar by following these steps:
Click
⋮
> Bookmarks > Show Bookmarks Bar
Hope this helps to clear up some of the questions about File and the icons
Google Chrome doesn’t have a menu bar, all of those actions can be done from the Chrome menu (The wrench icon in outdated versions of Chrome) at the top right.
