What does visa sponsorship mean?
A Visa Sponsorship means someone is Sponsoring you to support your application for a visa. Sponsor means to support, to take responsibility for.
If an individual sponsors you for a visa, they are taking responsibility for you and your actions while in the country.
Usually when you travel to a foreign country, you need to get a visa to enter the country. When you are just a tourist then you assume the full responsibility of your expenses and any incidentals/emergency that may be needed during your stay in the country.
Some countries have a concept of a sponsor, who would be responsible for your stay in the country.
For example, you visit Dubai to meet your friends, etc. and you apply for a Visit Visa (different from a tourist visa). In such a case, your friend needs to provide you an invitation and he can also sponsor your visa.

In such cases, your friend will be responsible for your stay and any expenses during your stay. He is your sponsor in this case.
If you chose to take up employment, then your Employer becomes your sponsor and he basically gets you the Visa and provides the assurance/surety to the Govt about your expenses, etc.
If you are migrating to a country like Canada, then you are self-sponsored and you need to prove your means of sustenance in the country while you are settling down.

They are effectively saying to the Immigration authorities “Yes Sir, I’ll look after this fellow, I’ll see he is fed, clothed and housed while he is her, and make sure when his time is finished that he leaves the country like he is supposed to.”
Visa sponsorship is when a company or person from a country supports your application for a visa for that country. There’s a lot of variabilities.
This could be a company sponsoring you for a work visa to come and work for them, it could be your spouse sponsoring your application to immigrate and live with them, or it could be an organization that you’re visiting that sponsors you for a short-term visitor’s visa.
Depending on the kind of visa you want and your nationality, you may not need sponsorship to apply, or perhaps you may not even need a visa at all. You should look at a country’s official website to figure out what the requirements are for you.
What is the best way to find sponsorship and get the Tier 2 visa in the UK?
Tier 2 is part of the points based system in the UK and if you fulfil specific criteria you could get a visa to work in the UK.
The system awards you points in three categories which are: attributes; English language; and maintenance. Any organisation offering you a job must be a licensed sponsor (you will score points for this under attributes).
Tier 2 has four categories and understanding these categories (1 and 2 in particular) is the best starting point for finding sponsorship:
1. General – if you have an offer of a skilled job that cannot be filled by a settled worker. This category includes applicants coming to the UK to fill shortage occupations. 2. Intra-Company Transfer – if you are an existing employee of a multinational employer who needs to be transferred to their UK branch for training purposes or to fill a specific skilled vacancy that cannot be filled by a settled or EEA worker either on a long term basis or for frequent short visits. There are 4 sub-categories of Intra-Company Transfer:
i)Long Term Staff – if you have been working for your organization for at least 12 months directly prior to your transfer. You can get a visa of up to 5 years under this route (or 9 years for any staff earning £155,300 a year or more).
ii) Short Term Staff – if you have been working for your organization for at least 12 months directly prior to your transfer. You can get a visa of up to 12 months.
iii) Graduate Trainee – if you are a recent graduate recruit being transferred to a UK branch of your organization for the purpose of training. (This route must not be used to fill long-term posts).
You must be coming to the UK as part of a structured graduate training program with clearly defined progression towards a managerial or specialist role within your organization for a maximum period of 12 months.

iv) Skills Transfer – if you are employed overseas and are being transferred to a UK branch of the same organization in a graduate occupation to acquire the skills and knowledge needed to perform your role overseas, or to impart your specialist skills – your visa would be for a maximum of six months.
3. You can qualify for a Tier 2 visa if you are an elite sportsperson or coach.
4. If you are a Minister of Religion undertaking preaching and pastoral work you may be able to qualify for a Tier 2 visa.

There is no ‘best’ way to find sponsorship and get a Tier 2 Visa in the UK. There is only ‘one’ way.
- You apply with one/more of the companies in the UK who hold a sponsorship license.
- Then be excellent at your craft so that they are willing to consider you for an interview.
- Then be absolutely lucky that they do not find anyone else in the UK who fits the job requirement (they could be less talented than you but as long as they fit the job requirement they are preferred).
- They issue the COS. This is when the Visa application starts.
- Then they need to pay you enough based on the right SOC code.
- They need to certify that they will maintain you for a month or you show enough funds in your accounts.
- Then you/company needs to get several documents
- Then you wait.
- After enduring all of this you can get a sponsorship and visa.
FYI most people looking to get tier 2 fail at point 1. I would think 99% probably give up at that stage these days.
I don’t mean to discourage you in anyway but I am just stating the facts.

An H-1B visa is the most common way for employers to sponsor professional workers in the U.S. In order to qualify for this sponsorship, the employee must hold a position that requires at least a bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in that field.
