In the USA, a “tri-state area” is a region at the boundaries of three states that share a somewhat common culture, a culture with which people can identify more strongly than the culture of their own State.

The best-known example of this would be the New York Tri-State Area, comprised of New York City, Northern New Jersey, and much of Fairfield County, Connecticut, and Nassau County on Long Island.

The culture and media in these areas are unavoidably driven by what takes place in New York City.

Most commonly, parts of New York, New Jersey, and Connecticut are referred to this way; collectively, they form the greater New York City metropolitan area. People move seamlessly between the three states for daily life and work. Thus it’s called “the tri-state area.”

But exactly what is the “New York tri-state area” that garners so much attention and is used so frequently as a descriptive phrase?

It is the area encompassing New York City and parts of its neighboring states, New Jersey and Connecticut.

This unofficial designation does not encompass all of these three states but is a shorthand way to describe New York City with its adjacent suburbs and smaller cities.

However, it is more than a delimitation of its geographic boundaries. The area is defined by culture, commerce, trade, and industry.

The New York tri-state area is just part of the Mid-Atlantic region encompassing all of New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Delaware, Maryland, Washington, D.C., Virginia, and West Virginia.

In the late nineteenth century, this region was called “typically American” because of its vast ethnic diversity and tolerant acceptance of religious pluralism stemming from the region’s settlement by Dutch, Swedes, English Catholics, and Quakers.

In the early part of the nineteenth-century New York and Pennsylvania emerged as the most populous states in the region.

The entire Northeast, including the New England states, evolved as the country’s most important trading and industrial centers.

A welcoming immigration policy toward German, Irish, Italian, Jewish, Polish, and others, helped transform and add to the diversity of the region.

Today, the New York metropolitan area continues to be the premier gateway for legal immigration to the United States, with the largest foreign-born population of any metropolitan region in the world.

By the twentieth century, New York City with its skyscrapers, subways, and concentration of business, became the exemplification of American cultural and economic power.

The New York City metropolitan region was recognized as one of the most important economic regions in the world.

Additionally, this three-state geographic area is the largest metropolitan area in the world. It covers New York City (the most populous city in the United States since 1790),

As a traveler who’s been to at least 50 countries, could you choose 3 that you think you would never tire of no matter how many times you visited?

The most fascinating part of my experience in China. I don’t care about politics etc. The least boring country in the world. It is huge and diverse. 80 nations live in this country with different cultures.

From the tropics of the south to the cold north. From the deserts of the east-north to the Tibetan Himalayas mountains. Gigantic cities. Everything oversized. Nothing boring there, never. The people are nice and very open, and the food is great.

A very underestimated country in the sense of tourism. Not a country for introverts. Great public transport. You can spend an entire year there discovering every day new things. More fake things than in Las Vegas.

Super safe country. It is like a giant, crazy amusement park. One place can be expensive, and another can be cheap. What I like about the Chinese is they don’t have that fake polite behavior like in Japan, the USA, etc( some people call it rude, but I call it honesty). They are very straightforward.

Easy to navigate with them. In the country, side always giant smiles on their faces( real ones). They are very natural people. If one is angry will show it. If one is happy will show it straight away. No puzzles . A smile means happiness, not fake politeness.

  • Highways
  • Public transport
  • Tibet
  • Tropics:
  • Cities

Shenzen (the sky city) has more skyscrapers than any city worldwide. Have you ever heard about the city? More skyscrapers than in NY.

  • Old Culture
  • Gobi
  • Fake mc donalds are everywhere.
  • Fake kfc everywhere

Fake Apple stores are common with, of course, fake Apple phones. I love it because I wouldn’t say I like big corporations. My soul, I am an economic libertarian. They understand it very well. Big corporations destroy small businesses with the help of the governments.

  • Copyrights here 🙂 Full apple.
  • Fake Starbucks is in plenty.
  • Good coffee, by the way
  • Fake Venice
  • Fake white house with China Flag:
  • London Bridge
  • Colosseum
  • Sphinx
  • Nike shop

Eiffel Tower with fake Paris( they have 8 towers 1:1 scale), Some of them in the middle of nowhere:)

Why they built it here in the suburbs? No idea, No tourists here, even no locals. The entire tower is yours without tickets and crowd 🙂

Even Singapore was copied. The taller version of the Marina bay hotel was built by this same company. Singaporeans copied themselves in China. The new meaning of “fake construction.”

  • Native tribes
  • The long neck tribe. Remove the gold. The neck is broken. Madness 🙂
  • Hill tribe with plants on the head:) Madness. Walking pots. Yes, they water the heads!!!
  • There is not all fake. Plenty of original ideas to find as well, for example, the crazy bridges
  • Glass bridge
  • Crazy houses
  • On the tree
  • House in the middle of the highway:) madness
  • Again in the middle of the suburbs:) WTF?
  • Empty giant ghost cities, no one lives there :
  • The ghost cities have plenty of fish. Total surrealism
  • The most stylish homeless people in the world. Some of them made a career in the industry:

Over 30 mln people in China live in caves and the ghost, and cities are empty(rent-free accommodation in the caves is a good idea, you can save money, in summer cold in winter easy to warm it up, they are free to live there, freedom, try to do it in western countries, all land belongs to somebody)

Ethnic groups in China

And thousands more crazy things. Pure fun to be there, but Hard to comprehend.

What would be the advantages and disadvantages of moving from the USA to England?

As an American living in England, I would like to share my experience moving from the US to the UK.

Advantages:

  • Regardless of where you are on the political spectrum, we can all agree that the American healthcare system is broken. As an American in the UK, I had to pay an immigration health surcharge as part of my visa, but in return, I got access to the NHS. The NHS isn’t perfect (for reasons that have more to do with British culture than the merits or drawbacks of socialized medicine in general), but it guarantees high-quality medical care to everyone in the country and does not cost anything above what I pay in taxes. It is a huge advantage over my medical insurance back home, which was $1300 a month for my family and had a massive deductible (covering nothing before the deductible was met).
  • While violent crime is everywhere, gun crime is a hallmark of American society. Being able to send my children to school here, knowing they won’t have to sit through an active shooter drill, is a massive relief.
  • Proximity to Europe and membership in the EU means that travel is easy (for now). If Brexit goes through, this will change.
  • People tend to like my accent.

Disadvantages:

  • There are aspects of British culture that I find infuriating. People here tend to accept sub-standard, well, everything due to being unwilling to fight for things to be better.
  • It’s hard to make friends here. British people tend not to like sharing their personal lives with anyone new, so moving here as an adult has been hard.
  • Lots of people here make their entire living ripping people off. Letting Agencies (Rental Agencies) charge outrageous fees, and most landlords do the bare minimum required by law to keep their properties in working condition, and I’ve found a shocking disregard for the quality of work done by every artisan I’ve hired to do work here. Buying things off of Facebook or Craigslist is basically out of the question because the items are never in working order when you get them.
  • Brexit. What a shit show.

Between the countries of the USA, UK, Canada, and Australia, which is the best to live in?

A comparison of the classic, English-speaking immigration countries. Let’s also include New Zealand.
I have lived in these for several years, except in Australia, in which I have taken a passionate interest for decades.
If you are a well-educated, young person and most likely male, of some substantial means, with a clear business vision and full visa clearance for the country in question, all of these can be great.

If I had two million dollars and a dream of opening a restaurant, that would work brilliantly in all these countries. Another option would be to work with the countries’ skills shortage lists to see where your qualifications would find traction.
But only a few immigrants have these possibilities.
Therefore, I will model the perfect immigrant profile for each country.

USA: The place to be if you are an MD, a famous actor, or a highly qualified specialist. I dreamed of working in the car design industry in some leadership position somewhere in California. For a capable, driven, young professional, a life like that is the only good reason to go to the US. It may still pan out for a woman with these qualities, but I would only choose the US with high qualifications and to live a family life.

Health insurance is expensive, but the standards are world-class. University tuition is incredibly high. What I loved about living in the US was the feeling of abundance. You can buy anything, experience climates and landscapes representing the rest of the world, and feel like a big shot driving around in V8 vehicles you can pick up for pennies. If you are young and strong, the US is a drug.

Australia: It used to be a great choice for skilled people with high flexibility, but it seems that the real estate prices are beginning to make it next to impossible for anyone who doesn’t earn really well to own their own place. For me, this would be a tremendous deterrent, which is why I have declined job offers in Australia in the past.

It still is a good place to have a family – if you can afford the associated costs, which are lower than in the US but not nonexistent. Health insurance is universal, with costs varying by region. University tuition is high. What I enjoy about Australia is the exoticism, the vastness, the humor, and the incredibly positive Australian mentality.

You can be very happy in Australia. New Zealand: this place only makes sense for immigrants in combination with a firm, permanent job offer at a notable organization operating within a foreseeable long-term need for your professional profile on the official skills shortage list, such as MD, nurse, carer, and physiotherapist.

That’s because employment opportunities are highly limited and rarely robust in the long term. You could make it if you are a successful researcher, professor, or lecturer with a long track record and experience working in a place similar to NZ. But the idea of “giving it a go as a chef or mechanic,” for example, can set you up for many ups and downs.

NZ is great for them if you have children – but beware that good schools will cost you. Health insurance is free for all. University tuition is lower than in Australia. What I loved about living in New Zealand was the ease of access to absolutely mind-boggling landscapes and nature.

Canada: A situation like in New Zealand. Health insurance is universal. University tuition is not exactly affordable, but cheaper than in the others. If the Teletubbies had a nationality, they would be Canadian. The place is warm and fuzzy, despite being cold and full of pine trees.

UK: This is where you can exist at just about any level of demographic development you may have achieved. You do not need to earn a lot in the UK to own a house or a car and go on holiday.

My neighbors in Warrington, Manchester, and Nottingham owned semi-detached homes and were bus drivers, digger operators, and cabbies. Medical treatment is free at the point of delivery, and I always felt in good hands with the NHS. University tuition is higher than in Canada, but the reality is that the repayment of student loans is lenient, and many only have to pay them off partially. The UK can feel rougher than the above, but they perform better than you might think.

I would choose the UK again, out of all of the above. I have moved there twice before, spending many years, and I have come to trust the UK over the others.

Besides, it is simply the most complex, intellectually stimulating, and romantic of all of these. I have fallen in love with the UK more and more throughout my life by living there. That says a lot about the place.

Why has the United States surpassed the United Kingdom?

In what way? Massacred children? Dead patients who died because they couldn’t afford healthcare? Are pregnant women giving birth to a rapist’s child or a dead fetus? Higher per capita prisoners in jail? Worse food standards? More religious nut jobs? Poorer public transport?

Has anyone from the UK moved to the US and immediately regretted it?

I did not immediately regret it.
Went to the USA in March 2000. Returned Halloween 2006.
The first year was a culture shock as I did not move to NYC; I moved to Kentucky.
I was blinded by love and the dream.
It is how it went for me –
Realized the country is huge, but everywhere for 1000 miles is the same in every direction. No history, no change of scenery, just a million miles of road with the same franchised restaurants, stores, car dealerships, and malls.

It was way too hot for me on most days. I sweat easily; unless you’re in the A/C, you will suffer.
After I deposited my money into a house and got a job, I realized I was in a work-or-die situation. I had zero vacation for a long time. Even in my 3rd or 4th year, I only got a week off paid.

I realized that nobody goes anywhere; people I met had stayed in the state they lived in for years. I started to understand that nearby family means everything; nobody travels anywhere, and if your family moves out of state, be prepared for them not to be visited but every 3rd year or so.

I missed UK sports like football. You could get some of it on cable, but it was $200 monthly. Americans love the things we do not. Trucks, Muscle cars, American history, American politics, and the American military. Nobody will talk to you about anything unless it’s American. On the plus side, you’re from the UK; you’re different, you sound different, and you’re a party piece. People love listening to your stories from back home and your accent.

My marriage fell apart in year 4; I trundled on for 2 more years. Ultimately, the only thing I had left was family, and they were 3500 miles across the ocean.
